‘Capital Style Fun Fair’ draws crowds

ISLAMABAD: “Capital Style Fun Fair”, organised by Lok Virsa in collaboration with Capital Development Authority (CDA) on its premises at Garden Avenue, Shakarparian, is drawing large crowds.

The event, which would continue till May 10, has been organised in connection with Golden Jubilee celebrations of CDA.

Giving details, Lok Virsa Executive Director Khalid Javaid told this news agency that a number of cultural and entertainment activities were part of the festival. These include a representative exhibition of master crafts persons including female artisans specialising in different crafts such as embroidery, zari work, stone work, metal work, wax printing, papier mache and Swati shawl weaving, he added.

The ED said other attractions include musical shows featuring Punjabi folk artists and rural performers, children amusements like puppet shows, play land and muppets as well as performances by traditional dance groups.

Besides cultural and entertainment activities, visitors can also enjoy village food like ‘saag roti’, Peshawari shinwari karahi, dahi bhalley and several other dishes which are rarely seen in the capital city, he said.

He said about 40,000 students from twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad were also expected to visit the festival on May 9 and 10. They will not only have the opportunity to witness the festival activities but will also visit cultural facilities at Lok Virsa including Heritage Museum depicting living traditions and lifestyles of the people of Pakistan and Heritage Library within the museum focusing on Pakistan’s traditional culture and serves as an important facility for students, researchers and scholars intending to carry out research on Pakistani culture, he added.

Highlighting the importance of students participation in such an event, the ED said that Lok Virsa’s was involving younger generation in all activities and programmes under its popular slogan – Harnessing Culture for Education, with a view to make the youth fully aware about indigenous folk culture, craft and musical heritage of the country.

The festival, which commenced on Tuesday, will continue till May 9, daily from 4 to 10 pm at Lok Virsa, Shakarparian.
