Karachi: Adviser to Chief Minister Sindh, Sharmila Farooqui said that women working in the field of journalism and politics need to establish a strong resolve and attitude because it is only with commitment and determination that the mindset of the society can be changed.

These views were expressed by her while talking to a ten-member delegation led by Rashida Soomro, comprising of final year female students of mass communication belonging to the Karachi University and Federal Urdu University.

She said that change in any society was unattainable without a change in the social attitudes, but whenever, women want to come forward they were treated with gender discrimination. “Women working in journalism needs to have strong resolve and attitude because it is only with a strong resolve that the world can be conquered,” she added.

She said that the tribal and feudal society would never support women working in the media because if they did then they would have to emancipate their own women in their homes. “Women in every field from journalism to politics will have to come in front to play a positive role and only then they would be able to get their rights”, she asserted.

While appreciating the role of women in the media/journalism she observed that although very few female journalists are associated with this profession, but it won’t be wrong to predict that in upcoming days, female journalists will be working in huge number with full devotion dealing in better political and social issues.
