KARACHI: At least 12 percent journalists were found hepatitis positive during blood screening camp at Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Tuesday.
Among them, 08 percent were hepatitis C positive while 03 percent were found hepatitis B positive. A large number of KPC members, their families and other non-members visited screening camp and availed free of cost facilities.
The camp, organised by Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) Dastoor on International Hepatitis Day, disclosed prevalence of deadly disease among the journalist’s fraternity, remarked Syed Afzal Mohsin, President, KUJ Dastoor while briefing newsmen about aims and objects of the screening camp.
Speaking on the occasion, Rizwan Bhatti, General Secretary, KUJ Dastoor said the purpose of the camp was to create awareness and to provide screening facilities to the journalists. He assured them of holding vaccination camp for those, who were tested hepatitis free and to raise issue of persons found hepatitis positive before the government. Dr Abdul Majeed Chutho, Programme Manager, Chief Minister Sindh Hepatitis Control and Prevention Programme and Dr Syed Ali Anjum visited the camp and assured hepatitis positive journalists for treatment at government’s expense.
