ISLAMABAD, July 18 2005: As many as 7,000 Pakistani children being used as camel Jockeys were still stranded in the deserts of several Gulf states,disclosed a report.
When contacted by The News, Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis Tariq Azeem confirmed that over 10,000 children were being used as camel jockeys and out of them 70 percent were Pakistanis and 30 percent were Indian, Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi.
A Labour Ministry official confirmed that this might be one of the big scams in the Pakistani history of human smuggling that well over 7,000 children were flown out of the country on fake travelling papers. He claimed that human smuggling at such level was not possible without the collaboration of officials belonging to the departments of Passport, Immigration and FIA.
