KARACHI (November 23 2008): Aaj TV, one of the country’s leading television channels, is all set to launch a “new and exciting lineup of programmes” to retain the quality and authenticity, which Pakistani television was known for. This was announced by Nadeem Baig, Head of Aaj TV’s Entertainment Department, while addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Saturday.

“We aim to recreate the values that were the hallmark of Pakistani television and I feel that we have been very successful in accomplishing that,” he added. Baig said in recent years commercialisation and copying of Indian dramas have affected the quality, which Pakistani television was known for.

But, all of this is set to change with an exciting new lineup of programmes that aims to go back to the roots of authentic Pakistani television, he said. The proposed programmes, he said, would have veteran actors, like Talat Hussain, Usman Peerzada, Farida Jalal and Saba Hameed besides the new stars, such as Aisha Khan in career defining roles.

Baig said directed by legendary directors, like Haider Imam Rizvi, the subjects explored in these dramas are sensitive and modern so that people from all walks of life could relate to them. He illustrated “Jab Naam Pukaray Jayen Gaay”, a mega drama serial unveiling that how terrorism in the name of Islam is used for political motives and how it devastates the lives of everyone involved.

Similarly, he said, “Saba Aur Farida”, is a drama serial that takes a light-hearted look at relationships between Pakistan and India through two sisters who live across the border but meet every year for a holiday in Dubai.

Other shows, which are in the lineup, Baig underlined, include “Ander Ki Baat Raja Kay Saath” (a novel new celebrity talk show with Hanif Raja), “Life Ka Teesra Chapter” (an exciting serial about the new generation), “Shaheed-e-Sarkar” (drama serial about old problems of new middle class), “Salam Namaste” (Mishi Khan speaks to Bollywood superstars) etc. The shows would be starting from November 24, 2008, he said.

Tariq Mirza, Director Sales Aaj TV said: “Advertisers have realised that it is in their best interest to associate with quality local programming instead of foreign imitations and our upcoming programming will be a testament to that.”
