AFPF recently returned from the Midterm Seminar at the Poynter Institute in Florida where there had been a nice balance of learning and playing, including time at the beach with St. Petersburg Times mentor Nancy Paradis.
Fellows will spend the remaining seven weeks in their host newsrooms reporting and also attending journalism conferences such as the National Association of Black Journalists. The program will conclude on August 30 in Washington, DC with our traditional graduation ceremony and luncheon.

to download the 2008 application forms which, when completed, are due to the new AFPF office by August 15. With journalistic staff in American newspapers shrinking, pressure on the American journalists who remain is much greater.
This, in turn, places pressure on AFPF to find Fellows who can compete in such an environment. Now more than ever we are looking for journalists who are both personally and professionally competent and capable. We need journalists who are:
good researchers, reporters, writers and self-editors,
politely pushy, i.e. journalists who are outgoing and assertive who, if not provided any structure in the newsroom, will create structure for him/herself,
leaders, not followers, adventurous, optimistic and adaptable, i.e. journalists who can deal well with whatever is given to them.
AFPF are looking for journalists between the ages of 25 and 35 who are from and work in developing countries, who possess these qualities. If you know any qualified journalists please encourage them to apply by passing along the link to the application.
