Khyber TV anchorperson and her family have gone missing during a trip to Babusar Top, amid ongoing flash floods that have devastated parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, officials confirmed on July 27.

Anchor Shabana, her husband Liaquat Ali, and their four children — Aimal, Iman, and two others — had traveled to Babusar Top on July 21. Since then, there has been no contact with the family.

Following the report of their disappearance, rescue teams launched a search operation in the area. Authorities said that modern search equipment and sniffer dogs are being used to locate the missing family. The operation continues despite difficult terrain and weather conditions.

Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq said a wallet belonging to the anchorperson was recovered. Faraq also stated that between 10 and 15 tourists are believed to have been swept away by the floods on the Babusar Highway, based on eyewitness accounts. So far, seven bodies have been recovered. He confirmed that human remains had also been recovered in Thak Bhasha, Diamer, and DNA testing would be required for identification.
