On September 28, Metro One News anchorperson Imtiaz Mir, who was critically wounded in a gun attack last week, succumbed to his injuries, his family and police confirmed.

Mir was ambushed near Kala Board in Malir on September 21 when armed assailants riding motorcycles opened fire on his car. He and his elder brother, Mohammed Salih, sustained serious injuries and were admitted to Liaquat National Hospital. Following the attack, a case was registered by the Saudabad police against unknown assailants, who have yet to be apprehended. According to police, the attack stemmed from a long-running land dispute in Jacobabad’s Thul town. A little-known group later claimed responsibility, but investigators dismissed its credibility.

After a week on a ventilator, Mir’s condition deteriorated, and he passed away during treatment. His brother Riaz Ali confirmed the death.

The news has triggered widespread grief. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed sorrow and directed the inspector general of police to ensure the swift arrest of those involved. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon hailed Mir as “a hardworking and fearless journalist who always highlighted public issues,” vowing that the government will leave no stone unturned in bringing the culprits to justice. Karachi police officials, including Additional IG Javed Alam Odho, also extended condolences to the family.
