On the evening of December 3, two armed neighbors allegedly trespassed into the Lahore residence of Syed Muzammil Shah, an anchorperson for Express News and YouTuber with 444,000 subscribers on his channel “Syed Muzammil Official.”
In a statement shared on X, Shah said that the two armed men from a neighbouring house “who seem to have taken an offence over my recent political opinions” had entered the premises in his absence. He said that they had fired multiple aerial gunshots with automatic weapons and tried to break the doors.
“My family called the police & the men also fired shots in their presence & one of them escaped. Two FIRs are registered but the main culprit Naveed is still at large who openly threatened to gun me down. This is the cost of being a journalist in this country. I’m tweeting after 24 hours because I tried my best to avoid exposure regarding an event that has traumatised my family but since the main culprit is still at large, I’m bringing in on record that if me or my family are harmed, the authorities ought to take responsibility, ” he shared.
Speaking to the Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) on December 9, Shah recounted receiving a call from his family informing him that two neighbors had trespassed his house asking about his whereabouts. Shah said that the assailants had given threats to his family and fired aerial shots from the roof. Shah’s family called the police via the emergency helpline 15. Upon arrival, police officers witnessed the aerial firing firsthand.
Shah revealed that the suspects also attempted to attack the police. Two First Information Reports (FIRs) were subsequently registered—one on behalf of Shah’s family and the other by law enforcement. The suspects are currently on interim bail as investigations continue.
