KARACHI (PR) – The APNS has expressed grave concern over the robbery committed in the office of Daily Din, Karachi, in the daylight by unknown dacoits who held the staff and visitors as hostages at gun point and collected cash and other valuables.

Arshad Zuberi, Secretary General of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society, stated that earlier on June 19, 1999 the office of Daily Balochistan Times, Quetta, situated on the roundabout of Abdullah Haroon Road was looted by young dacoits. He condemned the incidents of dacoity and noted that this indicates deteriorating law and order situation in the city wherein the newspapers are also not being spared by armed bandits who safely fled away without any interception by the law-enforcing authorities and are still at large.

These incidents have sent a wave of insecurity and harassment among the working journalists and in such a condition it would be difficult for them to discharge their professional duties.

The Secretary General has urged upon the Chief Advisor, Syed Ghous Ali Shah and IG Police Rana Maqbool Ahmed to take action against the culprits and advise the concerned police stations to provide security and protection to the newspaper offices on priority basis.
