LAKKI MARWAT: Unidentified armed men burnt the copies of a Peshawar-based Urdu daily in Naurang city on Monday.
“The armed men stopped the vehicle, carrying bundles of Daily Aaj to Naurang, Lakki, Tank and Dera Ismail Khan. They unloaded the bundles of the newspaper and set them on fire,” said Nadim Khattak, the correspondent of the said newspaper in Naurang.
He said that the men, armed with sophisticated weapons, were wearing red caps. Sources alleged that the attackers were activists of Awami National Party.
Journalists of the district during an emergency meeting condemned the incident and termed it an attack on the freedom of press. They said that they would not cover the meetings, functions and other events of ANP until its leaders tendered apology for the act and compensated the news agents for their losses.
