Arrangements finalised for Pak-India media seminar

KARACHI (November 24 2008): Arrangements for holding of a full-day Pakistan-India seminar on ‘Role of Media in the South Asian Politics’ have been finalised. Several leading journalists from India and Pakistan will be taking part in the seminar, which will be organised by the Media Resource Centre.

The one-day seminar to be held at a local hotel in Karachi will have three working sessions besides the inaugural session on November 27, 2008. The inaugural session of the seminar will be presided over by former National Assembly speaker Illahi Bux Soomro, while Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Sherry Rehman will be the chief guest.

The three other sessions will be presided over Deputy Speaker of Sindh Assembly Shehla Raza, the second working session will be presided over by Ashfaq Ahmad Gondal, Federal Secretary for Information and Broadcasting while the third and closing session will be presided over by Sindh Minister for Information Shazia Mari. Leading Indian journalists Ahmed Saeed Mailhabadi, Zahid Ali Khan and Aziz Burney are taking part in the event. From Pakistan side journalists Syed Fasieh Iqbal, Mahmudul Aziz, Mujibur Rehman Shami and Altaf Hasan Qureshi will be taking part.

Leading persons from civil society taking part in the seminar are Dr Tahir Masood, Adnan Adil, Qazi Shah Muhammad, Sarwar Javed and Dr Tanvir A Tahir will also read out their papers. Nusrat Mirza Chairman of the Media Resource Centre has expressed the hope that the seminar would help achieve the objective of the Resource Centre which include the promotion of media facilities, training of journalists and promote interaction among journalists, editors and owners of newspapers.
