On August 26, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) indicted Armaghan Qureshi, the prime suspect in the Mustafa Amir murder case, for allegedly attempting to kill journalist Nadeem Ahmed in Karachi.

Qureshi was produced before ATC Judge-XV, who read out the charges. The suspect pleaded not guilty and chose to contest them. The court adjourned the hearing till September 6, summoning prosecution witnesses.

According to the FIR, filed by Nadeem Ahmed, a senior reporter at 92 News channel, the incident took place on November 19, 2024, when he was travelling to his office on a motorcycle. Near KDA Scheme 1, a double-cabin vehicle suddenly applied brakes, leading to an argument. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire, leaving Ahmed wounded. He then fired more shots to create panic and fled the scene.

On March 14, Qureshi was remanded in police custody after Investigation Officer Amir Altaf informed the court that the suspect was identified through social media posts and later recognized by the complainant at the police station. The IO said interrogation was necessary to recover the weapon, vehicle, and corroborative evidence.

The court had observed that Qureshi was not initially named in the FIR but was later identified by Ahmed, which led to his arrest. Police were directed to investigate strictly in accordance with law and provide a progress report.
