HYDERABAD, June 16 2006: A large number of journalists, writers and civil society activists on June 15 held a demonstration outside the press club in protest against threats issued to TV journalist Sarmad Karnani. They raised slogans against the Sindh government, jirga system and the Sardari system. Speaking on the occasion, noted scholar Ibrahim Joyo, STPP leader Muzaffar Kalhoro, Zulfiqar Halepoto, Nazeer Memon and journalist Shahid Shaikh said that jirga system had became a cancer for the civil society. They condemned life threats to Mr Karnani and demanded the abolition of jirga system. They said that Sarmad Karnani and other journalists , reporting jirgas should be provided protection.
