On March 26, Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said that regulation of internet services had become “inevitable” stating that anti-state elements were using social media as a weapon and to influence the minds of young people negatively.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, Principal Secretary Babar Khan, Secretary Finance Imran Zarkoon, Secretary Agriculture Noor Ahmed Pirkani, Secretary Livestock Department Abdul Fattah Bhanger, Vice Chairman Balochistan Board of Investment and Trade Bilal Khan Kakar, Director of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Faisal Khan Panizai, Government Spokesperson Shahid Rind, and officials from relevant departments and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The Chief Minister said that while the internet plays a crucial role in education and training, social media was also being used by anti-state elements to spread negative narratives among the youth. He stressed the importance of countering these efforts through social media and guiding young people positively.
During the meeting, a comprehensive discussion was held on the improvement of the IT and telecom sectors in Balochistan. Secretary of the IT Department, Ayaz Khan Mandokhel briefed the participants.
CM Bugti highlighted that the IT sector as a tool enhancing governance was the “need of the hour,” ensuring transparency, improving government affairs, and delivering better services to the public.
