The Balochistan Information Commission has formally begun its operations, a development seen as a step toward transparency and public empowerment in the province. The Commission’s office, set up inside the Directorate of Public Relations building, was inaugurated by Provincial Secretary for Information Imran Khan.
Addressing the gathering, Secretary Imran Khan termed the Commission’s establishment a milestone. He stated that the Right to Information is a constitutional entitlement that enhances accountability, strengthens governance, and fosters public trust. He urged the Information Department to ensure that government initiatives and policies are shared with citizens accurately and transparently.
Director General Public Relations Muhammad Noor Khetran, Commissioner Abdul Shakoor Khan, and Director Saeed Shahwani attended the ceremony.
Commissioner Abdul Shakoor Khan said the office marks an essential step in enabling citizens to exercise their Right to Information. He commended Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti’s government for prioritizing good governance, anti-corruption measures, and inclusive development. He emphasized that every citizen has an equal right to access information and pledged that government departments would be bound to respond to public requests in a timely and transparent manner.
He also called on citizens to actively use the law, describing access to information as vital for curbing corruption and improving decision-making.
The Commission has been established under the Balochistan Right to Information Act 2021, which empowers citizens to seek information from public bodies formally.
