QUETTA: Balochistan High Court’s (BHC) chief justice (CJ) expressed his anger over the lack of progress in the Nawab Akbar Bugti murder case and censured police and other officials for it.

The division bench comprising Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Muhammad Hashim Khan passed these remarks during the hearing of a petition filed by Nawabzada Jamil Akbar Bugti, the eldest son of late Baloch nationalist leader Nawab Akbar Bugti. Additional Advocate General Nasrullah Khan Achakzai informed the bench that the case had been referred to the Quetta Crime Branch.

The CJ, while expressing serious concern and anger, said that despite the directives of the high court no progress had been in the murder case and no efforts were being made to arrest the accused people specifically nominated in the FIR.

“The court issued the directives of lodging an FIR on June 7, 2009, and the case had been registered on June 13 at the Dera Bugti Police Station. The court was merely told that the case was transferred to the Crime Branch and no arrest was made nor any evidence had been collected in this connection, which was a matter of great concern. The officials had not even recorded statements of the witnesses,” he observed.

Justice Hashim Khan asked as to why the Crime Branch had not taken any action even though the court had issued clear directives in this regard. “The court had asked the Crime Branch to take action and it had not acted upon the clear directives,” he said.

Advocate General Amanullah Kanrani informed the court that he needed some time for compiling a report regarding the case. He did not respond to the court’s question that why had the accused not been arrested. The court adjourned the hearing until May 23, 2012.
