LAHORE: The Punjab Union of Journalists has demanded the dismissal of all fake cases registered against journalists with reference to the Jinnah Hospital incident.

In an emergent meeting of the union at the Lahore Press Club on Sunday, the office-bearers of the PUJ demanded that Chief Justice of Pakistan should take suo motu action against the hooliganism of doctors. President Federal Union of Journalists Haji Nawaz Raza specially flew in to express solidarity with the journalist community.

Addressing the meeting, President PUJ S Amjad, Central VP Syed Anwar Qadvai and other office-bearers said these cases had been registered by Dr Jawed Akram by using his influence in the police. The meeting observed that the Punjab government, too, was displaying an anti-journalist attitude, which was a disappointing fact.

The office-bearers said the lack of appropriate legislation regarding negligence of duty by doctors had led to the present day scenario, which had given doctors the licence of unaccountability in the society. They said that because of the fact that the media was the only body which held doctors accountable to their criminal negligence, the doctors had now arranged to do away with this responsibility. They said that every month many patients died because of negligence of medical community all over the country for which there was no check.

They said these offensive measures by the doctors could not deter the media from voicing the issue and injustice inflicted to the people by the doctors community, and the journalists would keep unveiling the black deeds of irresponsible doctors.
