Karachi: Those seeking current information about the city government’s education department could well have to wait until the authority finally decides to update its rather outdated website. Most of the information available on the site does not match the current status of the department’s employees.
Only a few officials have been accredited with their correct designations, while the rest of the information available on the web link is extremely misguiding and very outdated.
The title page of the Education Department website carries the name, picture and cell phone number of the current Executive District Officer (EDO) for Education, Muhammad Ibrahim Kunber. On the other hand, if a person clicks on the ‘organisational chart’ subsection of the same webpage, he or she would be surprised to discover that Kunber’s name is missing. According to the outdated subsection, Fakhar Karim Sidduiqi, who was the former EDO, is still holding that position.
In addition to this, the ‘department inside’ subsection of the website, which includes links to the ‘heads of the department history’ and ‘department officials’ pages, has no information and remains blank to this date.
Ahmed Nawaz Niazi is one of the few to have his correct designation stated on the website as the District Officer Education, Headquarters. However, current Deputy District Officer for Academic Planning Aftab Ahmed Sheikh’s name is still mentioned on the web links as the Administrative Officer. In reality, Liaquat Solangi is currently serving at the latter post.
Furthermore, at present, Zia-ul-Hasan Shaikh is working at the post of Assistant Director (AD-I), but the website shows that Khasif Akhtar is still holding that position. Similarly, the post of AD-II is being looked after by a subject specialist, Syed Musharraf Ali, but according to the web portal, Muhammad Arshad Ali Khan is still in charge and working at the post.
Former Audit Accounts Officer Aijaaz Soomro was dismissed on corruption charges and has been replaced by Liaquat Solangi. However, Solangi’s name is not even mentioned on the education department’s website.
The next section which shares information on the external administrative hierarchy of the department has also misled the general public. The heads of the offices of DO, (E) Secondary and Higher Secondary, CDGK, (Male and Female) are Shabbir Ahmed Jokhio and Naseem Zaidi, respectively. Naseem Zaidi took charge after Khursheed Fatima retired as the DO (E) Secondary and Higher Secondary (Female). But the website paints a completely different picture and shows that Muhammad Iqbal Ahmed and Safia Arbab are still holding those positions.
Meanwhile, Siddique Baloch is the new DO (E) Elementary, while Farnaz Riaz is DO (E) Elementary (Female). But according to the department’s website, Abdul Karim Burdi and Najma Niaz are the people in charge. It would be interesting to mention here that Najma Niaz has moved on to becoming a regional director and is involved with college affairs nowadays.
Khurram Arif was appointed as DO Special Education (local bodies) but, the web portal still states the name of the person he replaced, Mirza Amjad Baig.
Although the subdivision of the DO of Technical Education is now handled by the Sindh Government, the link has still not been removed from the department’s website. In addition to this, the website has not added the name of Saleem Awan, who is currently serving as the DO for sports. This post was formerly held by a lady named Afreen and the web portal still bears her name.
It’s a similar situation on other parts of the webpage. The names of the new DOs for SEMIS and Academics have not been updated and according to the site, the old department heads are still holding their positions.
