GILGIT, August 16 2006: The Special Communication Organisation (SCO) launched cellular phone service in eight cities in the Northern Areas through a subsidiary company, the SCom, on Monday. Through serving remote areas, the SCO has strengthened government efforts to create an equitable information society in the country, said Commander Major General Mohsin Kamal, the chief guest on the occasion.

“Since its existence is accomplishing its targets with professional expertise and has faced the challenge of providing telecom services to the people living in difficult terrains of the Northern Areas, the launch of the GSM service by the SCO in the region is a significant step,” he said.
