On March 2, the National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) of Pakistan commenced a formal investigation into a series of coordinated cyberattacks that targeted multiple television channels, websites, and mobile applications on March 1. These disruptions affected the state-owned satellite Pak-Sat, causing transmission issues for several TV channels. Despite the attack, no major government or private websites were impacted.
On March 2, a meeting led by Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima was held in Islamabad to deliberate on these cyber incidents. Cybersecurity experts and relevant officials participated in the meeting and collectively decided to initiate a detailed inquiry into these breaches. The authorities are now focused on uncovering the motive, origin, and technical details of the cyberattacks.
CERT has also issued an alert advising stakeholders in government departments and private institutions to enhance their cybersecurity defenses and maintain vigilance against possible future threats.
CERT has assured that a comprehensive report will be released following the conclusion of the investigation.
