CM felicitates new office-bearers of KPC

KARACHI- Sindh Chief Minister, Sardar Ali Mohammed Khan Mahar has felicitated the newly-elected office-bearers of Karachi Press Club (KPC) for the year 2003-04.

In a message on March 31, 2003, he congratulated KPC’s re-elected President Sabihuddin Ghousi of daily Dawn, Secretary Khurshid Abbasi of daily Awam, Vice President Khurshid Tanveer of daily Dawn, Abid Ali of daily Jang as Joint Secretary and Treasurer Moosa Kaleem of The News. He hoped that the office-bearers would serve the journalists in the traditional manner.

It may be noted here that Sabihuddin Ghausi of daily Dawn and Khurshid Abbasi of daily Awam were elected as president and secretary of Karachi Press Club (KPC) respectively for the year 2003-04.

The polling was held on March 30, 2003 under the supervision of the Election Committee headed by Syed Qutubuddin. According to the official results, Ghausi defeated Mazhar Abbas of AFP by 34 votes, pocketing 317 votes. Abbasi got 319 votes, defeating Zarar Khan of AP who managed to get 284 votes.

Khurshid Tanveer of Dawn was elected as vice president. He obtained 370 votes against Wirasat Husnain (227) of Business Recorder. Moosa Kaleem of The News was elected as treasurer by defeating Bachal Laghari of Nawa-i-Waqt. He got 303 votes while Laghari managed to obtain 298 votes.

Abid Husain of daily Jang was elected as joint secretary, securing 300 votes and defeating his opponent Iftikhar Ali of Daily News by three votes.

Those elected to the governing body were A H Khanzada (Jasarat) 347 votes; Zabe Azkar Husain (The News) 303; Shabana Shafiq (Jang) 297 votes; Shujauddin Qureshi (APP) 291 votes; Arman Sabir (Dawn) 282 votes; Abul Hasan (Awami Awaz) 278 votes and Shahid Iqbal (Business Recorder) 268 votes.

The Panel led by Mazhar Abbas won seven seats and Democratic Panel led by Sabihuddin Ghausi got five seats out of total 12 offices. 618 votes were cast out of total number of 714. President Hafiz Shaheed Memorial Trust, Pirzada K Bashir and Chairman Pak-China Citizen Association, Zahid Qamar also congratulated the new office-bearers.
