A police fact-finding committee has concluded that senior DawnNewsTV journalist Khawar Hussain Bajwa died by suicide. Bajwa was found dead on August 16 in his car on Hyderabad Road, Sanghar, with a gunshot wound to the head and his licensed 9mm pistol in hand.
The three-member committee, led by Additional IGP Counter-Terrorism Department Azad Khan with DIG West Irfan Baloch and SSP Sanghar Abid Baloch, examined the crime scene, interviewed witnesses, and reviewed forensic and medical reports before finalizing its findings.
According to the report, Bajwa’s pistol was used in the shooting, with medical experts confirming the wound as a “contact shot.” CCTV footage showed his vehicle parked outside a restaurant for two hours without anyone approaching. The committee estimated the time of death between 9:58pm and 10:35pm.
Police said Bajwa’s reset mobile phone, along with his pistol, bullets, and SIM card, had been recovered from the car and sent for forensic analysis. A second autopsy conducted at Liaquat University Hospital Hyderabad, also confirmed there were no signs of torture.
Bajwa’s family rejected the police findings, insisting he was murdered. His father and brother said he had no personal or financial distress, while his sister noted he had recently celebrated Eidul al-Adha with her in Karachi and had not informed anyone in Sanghar of his visit.
