LAHORE: An 18-year-old girl who eloped with her lover and married him in Multan in May is receiving death treats from her parents.

Muhammad Khalid, the husband of Siama Bibi, told The News that he and Saima had married in court on May 5 because the parents of Saima, the residents of Tehsil Kamalia, were against the marriage.

He said that on June 6, Saima’s father, Muhammad Hussain, and brother with four armed people came to his rented house in Multan. “I was not at home and they kidnapped my wife and took her to Kamalia where they kept her for more than 20 days,” he added. However, Saima succeeded in escaping and she joined Khalid in Multan.

Saima said that her father and brother took her to the Arooti police station on June 11 and forced her to give a statement that four people, including her husband, had raped her. “The police registered an FIR against my husband who obtained pre-arrest bail,” she added. The couple appealed to the government to provide them with security and cancel a false FIR registered against Khalid.
