SUKKUR: Two women, declared kari by their relatives, were produced in the court here on Tuesday and later handed over to their relatives.
According to officials at the women police station, Sukkur, Shahnaz, daughter of Shah Bux Mirani, resident of Waspur Muhalla, Sukkur, had come to the women police station, demanding protection against her brothers, who wanted to kill her on the pretext of karo-kari.
She was produced in the court of IIIrd Additional Sessions Judge, Sukkur, Khalid Tipu Rana. In her statement before the court, Shahnaz said that her brothers viz; Mohammad Moosa Mirani and Ali Ahmed Mirani wanted to kill her on the pretext of karo-kari. Therefore, she don’t want to live at her home, rather she opted to go with her aunt Jannat Bibi, resident of the Salehpat area.
The court allowed her to go with her aunt and ordered the police to safely escort her to her aunt’s home.
Zakia, wife of Ali Mohammad Waseer, resident of New Pind, Sukkur, was produced before the IInd Civil Judge, Sukkur, Rajab Ali Shar.
Narrating her ordeal before the court Zakia alleged that in December 2009, Abdul Khaliq Waseer and his accomplices had kidnapped her on gunpoint and took her to Karachi. She said during captivity, Abdul Khaliq, Ali Murtaza Waseer and others repeatedly subjected her to criminal assault.
She said a few days ago, the accused shifted her to a village near Pano Akil, from where she escaped and reached the women police station.
She said as her husband was not ready to accept her, therefore, she wanted to go with her brother Naeem Waseer. The court handed her over to her brother.
Our Larkana correspondent adds: A recently married couple, fearing to be killed under the tag of karo-kari, sought help of the home department and the Larkana DIG for protection.
Speaking at a news conference at press club here on Tuesday, Hakim Ali Chandio and his wife Hussna Chandio, resident of Saeed Chandio village near Hamal Lake (Qambar) said that they had married of their will and with the consent of parents on January 14.
Since their marriage uncles of Husna, Mohammed Essa Chandio, Faiz Mohammed Chandio, Anwar Chandio and others had turned against them, they said.
Their opponents have also lodged false cases on baseless charges, they said. Police, instead of safeguarding their lives, was lending support to their opponents, they alleged.
