Karachi- A judge on Thursday ordered the police to provide protection to a free-will couple and warned them against registering any case against them.
Additional District and Session Judge Hafeeza usman disposed of the petition of the couple after issuing these directives.
Bakhtawar and Rahim Bux had filed an application in the court, stating that their family members and police were harassing them for contracting a marriage against their approval.
They had tied the knot in Sadiqabad last year and later moved to Karachi, fearing for their lives.
They stayed at a relative’s place in Gulistan-i-Jauhar in Karachi. Their parents, however, managed to trace their whereabouts and threatened them with dire consequences.
When the couple approached the Gulistan-i-Jauher police, they also threatened them to part ways with each other, or else they would be implicated in false cases.
The couple believed their parents had bribed the police. Therefore, they asked the court to provide them with protection as they feared for their lives. The police had, however, denied in the court having arrested or harassed the couple.
