KARACHI: The president of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE), Jameel Ather Kazi, senior vice-president Kazi Asad Abid, secretary general Ilyas Shakir, joint secretary Javed Meher Shamsi and finance secretary Mushtaq Ahmed Qureshi have expressed profound grief over the death of veteran politician and former West Pakistan governor Yusuf Haroon.
In a joint condolence statement, the CPNE office-bearers said Yusuf Haroon was among close aides of the Quaid-i-Azam. He actively took part in the struggle for the separation of Bombay from Sindh and later for Pakistan.
On several occasions, the Father of the Nation stayed at his residence.
Paying tribute to his services for the newspaper industry, they said that Yusuf Haroon played a key role in strengthening the fourth pillar of the state.
They added that his services as editor-in-chief of Dawn would be remembered for long. The CPNE office-bearers offered condolences to Hussain Haroon and Hameed Haroon over their uncle`s death.
