KARACHI – The Sindh Committee of the Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) at a meeting held in Karachi on August 3 adopted a resolution rejecting the amendments proposed by the federal government to the Defamation Ordinance of 2002.

The meeting decided to convey the viewpoint of the committee on the amendment bill to members of the select committee of the National Assembly. The meeting felt that the CPNE should cooperate with all other bodies which oppose the amendments to the Defamation Ordinance. The committee decided to resist any attempt the government might take to restrict press freedom.
