On May 21, the National Cyber Crime Agency (Sindh Zone) lodged cases against 11 individuals, including three women, for allegedly promoting anti-state sentiments and defamatory content against prominent national figures through various online platforms.
The accused were operating web-based TV channels and utilizing social media to spread material considered damaging to the state. The activity, officials claim, intensified during the recent period of heightened tensions between Pakistan and India. An NCCIA spokesperson stated: “The nominated individuals have been involved in spreading misleading propaganda targeting Pakistan’s armed forces and national leadership. Legal proceedings are in motion, and action against identified accounts is ongoing.”
According to registered First Information Reports (FIRs), one female suspect along with multiple other individuals has been arrested. Investigators have also traced nearly 500 social media accounts allegedly linked to the dissemination of similar content. Further action is currently underway.
The charges have been brought under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2025.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has confirmed the blocking of 119,496 websites and 3,248 YouTube channels as part of a broader clampdown on digital material perceived as threatening to national security and defence. PTA officials said that specifics of the blocked content cannot be disclosed due to privacy regulations.
