PESHAWAR, Oct 7: A man allegedly killed his young wife and injured her brother at the Judicial Complex here on Saturday over a dispute on haq-i-mehr, witnesses said. The accused, Kamran Khan, was caught by a court official while he was trying escape. The woman, about 20 years of age, had earlier informed the district and sessions judge, about a threat from the accused and his brother. She had alleged that her husband and in-laws would kill her. That case is fixed for Oct 10.

Witnesses said the accused fired on Umat-e-Salma as soon as she and her brother Arsalan came out of the family court after attending proceedings in the mehr case. Arsalan was taken to the Lady Reading Hospital where his condition is said to be stable. Assistant court officer Masil Khan got hold of the accused. The East Cantonment police have registered a case on the complaint of Arsalan. Umat-e-Salma, a mother of a three-year-old daughter, had separated from her husband a few months ago citing ‘continuous domestic violence’ as the reason for her decision. She had filed the instant suit seeking haq-i-mehr. The accused had pledged to transfer his share in their family house to her name as mehr.
