Shahid Mahar Shamsi, the owner and the editor-in-chief of Daily Kaleem, passed away due to a heart attack on March 15. He was the younger brother of Javed Mahar Shamsi, President of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE).
Shahid carried forward the journalistic heritage of his father, Mahar Ilahi Shamsi, who launched Daily Kaleem as a weekly in Sukkur in 1948. The publication transitioned to a daily format. He is survived by his widow, three sons, and two daughters.
Following the news of his passing, tributes have poured in from various quarters. Syed Shafqat Ali Shah, a prominent political leader, expressed profound sorrow and grief, offering his heartfelt condolences to Shahid’s family and praying for their fortitude during this challenging time.
Barrister Arslan Sheikh commented on Shahid’s unwavering principles and respect in the media industry: “He was a man of principles and was respected for his views. May his soul rest in eternal peace.” He added that Shahid’s contributions to journalism will always be remembered.
The members of the Sukkur Press Club also expressed their condolences, highlighting Shahid’s role as a significant figure in journalism.
