Senior journalist Danish Zuberi, known for his role as the City Desk Head at The Express Tribune, died due to complications after undergoing open-heart surgery. His death has been described as a significant loss to both his colleagues and the journalism community. Funeral prayers were to be held on June 13 after Zuhr prayers at Mustafa Masjid, DHA Phase I.

Zuberi’s career in journalism began as a business reporter at various newspapers including Daily Finance and Financial Post. He joined The Express Tribune, where he eventually became the City Desk Head.

Zuberi was celebrated not only for his professional achievements but also for his personal qualities. Described as warm, humorous, and calm, he mentored many younger journalists, guiding them with patience. His often-repeated phrase, “No issues, akhbaar roz chapta hai,” symbolised his approach to leadership and reassuring younger colleagues.

His colleague, Nusrat Jamali, highlighted Zuberi’s background in a family dedicated to education and public service, which was reflected in his professional conduct and respect for others. Zuberi was known for his composed and respectful demeanor, avoiding unnecessary dispute.

Rana Saif, another colleague, remembered Zuberi for the familial atmosphere he nurtured among the staff, often sharing meals and laughter, which endeared him to many. His passing has left a void, marked by the absence of any bitterness or grudges in a career often fraught with pressure, he said.

Zuberi is survived by his family, numerous friends, colleagues, and many students of journalism, all of whom mourn the loss of a figure celebrated for his kindness, wisdom, and humanity.
