On December 17, the Federal Constitutional Court was informed that the government submitted a detailed progress report on the investigation into the killing of senior anchorperson Arshad Sharif. The three-member bench hearing the case was told that the report outlines all steps taken so far, including the work of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), and sets out the planned course for completing the probe.

During the proceedings, the Additional Attorney General said the only remaining task for the JIT was to visit Kenya to review the crime scene and collect evidence, after which the investigation would be finalised. The court noted that the government had complied with its earlier directive to submit an updated report and adjourned the hearing until after the winter judicial vacation.

Earlier, on December 3, the Federal Constitutional Court questioned its authority to continue hearing the case under suo motu powers following amendments introduced through the 27th Amendment. During that hearing, the court also sought an update on the investigation into Sharif’s killing in Kenya in October 2022.

Arshad Sharif was shot dead in Kenya in October 2022, prompting continued calls for a transparent investigation into the circumstances of his death.
