LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab has sent a proposal to President Asif Ali Zardari, asking him to ensure that funds made available for women parliamentarians were utilised through local party offices to strengthen the party at the grassroots.

According to party sources, PPP Punjab Finance Secretary Aurangzeb Burki had organised a party meeting in honour of Fauzia Habib, the president’s deputy political secretary, at a local hotel on Saturday. PPP Punjab, PPP Lahore chapter and party zonal heads, including Naveed Chaudhry, Advisor to Governor Hafeez Malik and PPP Punjab Information Secretary Dr Fakharuddin Chaudhry participated in the meeting. PPP Lahore President Chaudhry Asghar Ali Gujjar, Secretary Akbar Khan and Finance Secretary Hafiz Ikhlaq Khan, along with party zonal presidents, presented various proposals to the president’s deputy political secretary, aimed at strengthening the party against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

Grievances: They expressed their grievances against some party ministers, claiming that they (ministers) were not cooperating with party workers to solve their problems. Local party leaders also suggested that the PPP empower the party’s local offices and appoint a liaison between the PPP’s women parliamentarians and local party leadership. They said the party would be strengthened if such funds were used for different schemes through the local party offices in their areas. hussain kashif
