After significant delays, the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under the Anti-Terrorism Act for the murder of daily Awami Awaz reporter Nasrullah Gadani in Mirpur Mathelo, Sindh. The FIR was registered on May 28, one week after Gadani was brutally attacked on May 21, leading to his death in a Karachi hospital on May 24.

The FIR lists several charges under the Pakistan Penal Code, including Section 302 for premeditated murder, Section 337-H for punishment for hurt by rash or negligent act, Section 120-B for criminal conspiracy, Section 506 for criminal intimidation, and Section 34 for common intention, combined with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997, at the Mirpur Mathelo police station. The complaint was filed by Gadani’s bereaved mother.

In a related development, police announced on May 26 the detention of three suspects from Kamal Lond village in connection with the murder.

On May 26, the grief-stricken mother of Gadani, had expressed profound distress over the delay in justice. In emotional remarks to the media, she warned of potential dire actions reminiscent of Mai Jindo’s tragic protest in 1996, where frustration with judicial failures led to drastic measures. She also accused a local chairman of previously attempting to harm her son.

“But the Almighty had saved my son then. Now, I don’t know who killed him or who is behind this murder,” stated Pathani Gadani. She drew parallels between her struggle and that of Mai Jindo, whose family suffered due to alleged corruption and miscarriage of justice.
