ISLAMABAD: FM Radio at the Motorway will provide useful information, create traffic awareness and will keep the people updated on the facilities provided to the travellers on the Motorways.
This was stated by the Federal Minister for Communication Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the first Motorway and Highway FM Radio at Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway (M-2).
Federal Secretary Communications Sharif Ahmad Khan, Inspector General (IG) NH&MP Dr Wasim Kausar and Chairman NHA Chaudhry Altaf Ahmad were also present on this occasion.
While talking to media men, Federal Minister said that 40 toll plazas of NHA were with FWO and NLC which have now been handed over to the NHA, and it has increased the government revenue by 2 to 2 1/2 billion rupees. He said that the contracts for Motorway toll plazas will be awarded through open bidding in front of the Standing Committee National Assembly, the members of parliament and the media.
Arbab Alamgir Khan said that the first highways and motorways FM radio station would a pleasant addition in the communications facilities by providing awareness regarding road safety and road discipline to the road users.
The minister said that the range of FM radio would be expanded to the whole country, which will provide information as well as entertainment service to the road users. It will also create awareness about traffic rules among people and broadcast other useful information and programmes to ease their travelling.
The minister said that we are in a state of war and the greatest challenge before us is terrorism and it is the credit of the present government that this challenge has been accepted, whereas the previous governments overlooked this issue which has been festering for years. The present government has taken many bold steps to eradicate terrorism from the country, he said.
