Karachi: German Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Michael Koch and newly-appointed Consul General in Karachi Dr Tilo Klinner visited the offices of the Jang Group on Tuesday on a goodwill visit to meet senior members of the management and editorial staff.
They exchanged views with the Jang Group team, including senior editors of The News, on a range of issues, which included Pakistan-Germany ties, the current political and economic situation in Pakistan and the region and the media-led India-Pakistan peace initiative, Aman ki Asha.
The ambassador was briefed on the Aman ki Asha initiative, which the Jang Group and The Times of India — two South Asian media giants — had launched in January 2010 in an attempt to improve ties between the two estranged neighbours. The German diplomats lauded the Aman ki Asha initiative, saying that such movements go a long way in promoting peace and harmony, and supported its aim of fostering better political and economic relations between India and Pakistan.
The German diplomats stated that all the stakeholders should work for peace in war-ravaged Afghanistan. Dr Koch said that the upcoming Bonn conference on Afghanistan would provide an opportunity to end the conflict and push for peace in this land-locked Central Asian country.
