On February 15, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi acknowledged the contribution of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) in promoting the ideology of Pakistan, reinforcing the national narrative and addressing fake news and anti-state propaganda. He made these remarks during a meeting held in Islamabad to discuss the authority’s mandate and ongoing work.
The meeting took place at the Governor House in Islamabad, where the governor met Director General PEMRA Islamabad Faqir Afzal Masoom. Businessman and social figure Umar Farooq, also known as Kashi Awan, was also in attendance.
During the meeting, participants reviewed PEMRA’s performance and discussed issues related to media regulation and responsible journalism. They also exchanged views on the challenges arising from misinformation in the digital era.
Governor Kundi emphasized the need for coordination between regulatory bodies and media stakeholders to promote ethical broadcasting practices and protect national interests. He reiterated his support for measures designed to counter fake news and to project a constructive image of Pakistan both domestically and internationally.
