Governor KP and PEMRA chairperson discuss role of media and current national situation

On March 18, the Chairperson of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), Ambreen Jan, met with the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi at the Governor’s House in Islamabad. The dialogue covered issues including the role of media and the current national situation.

Governor Kundi acknowledged PEMRA’s pivotal role and praised its performance. Highlighting the regulatory authority’s increased responsibilities in the current situation, he stressed the importance of PEMRA’s active involvement in fostering responsible journalism.

Governor Kundi noted the necessity of the media providing accurate and timely information is essential for positively guiding society and emphasized the importance of upholding high ethical standards in journalism.

Further discussions revolved around restoring the PEMRA office in Dera Ismail Khan, originally established in 2008. Both parties agreed that reactivating this office would significantly benefit media regulation and support local journalists.

Jan informed the Governor about PEMRA’s ongoing initiatives. Governor Kundi expressed optimism about PEMRA’s future performance under her leadership.
