On 14th August, Senior journalist Arshad Aziz Malik, currently serving as the President of the Peshawar Press Club, was nominated for the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, one of Pakistan’s highest civilian honors.This recognition comes in light of Malik’s extensive contributions to investigative journalism, and reporting.
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, praised Malik’s dedication to responsible journalism, noting that his achievements serve as a source of pride for the entire journalistic community in the province.
Malik’s career in journalism began in 1991 after completing his Master’s in Political Science and Journalism. He started with Daily Mashriq and later joined Daily Aaj in 1994, where he became a key figure in the editorial team. In 2014, he joined Daily Jang, further establishing his reputation as an investigative journalist. Malik has produced over 1,000 investigative reports, primarily focusing on corruption and abuse of power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Malik has served as the President of the Khyber Union of Journalists, where he implemented key reforms to support and protect fellow journalists. He was instrumental in linking journalists’ jobs to the wage board, securing fair compensation, and ensuring job security. Malik also facilitated access to free healthcare for over 300 journalists in Peshawar and launched a magazine called Khyber, dedicated to addressing journalists’ concerns and issues.
Malik has also contributed to journalism as a trainer, conducting numerous training programs and delivering lectures on various topics. His efforts have been instrumental in mentoring young journalists and shaping the future of journalism in Pakistan. His commitment to educating the next generation of journalists reflects his dedication to the profession and his desire to uphold journalistic standards.
