On January 16, Sindh Governor Muhammad Kamran Khan Tessori hosted a luncheon at the Governor House in honour of the newly elected office-bearers of the Karachi Press Club. The event was held to mark the completion of the Club’s recent elections and to acknowledge the role of its leadership.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor congratulated the successful panel, The Democrats, on the timely completion of the electoral process. He also referred to the panel’s performance over the past 18 years, describing the Karachi Press Club as a democratic and pro-democracy institution.
The Governor stated that the Karachi Press Club has played an important role in supporting human rights, democracy and the constitution. He added that the media had consistently supported him, the Governor House and the welfare and educational initiatives launched under his tenure.
Khan highlighted initiatives focused on advanced information technology and artificial intelligence training for youth and assured that similar facilities, including IT classes, could be extended to members of the Karachi Press Club. The Governor also assured full cooperation in addressing issues faced by the journalists’ community.
During the luncheon, Karachi Press Club President Fazil Jamili raised the issue of the Club’s lease and sought the Governor’s assistance in resolving the matter. He informed the Governor that the issue required official support.
Karachi Press Club Secretary Aslam Khan thanked the Governor for inviting the newly elected office-bearers to the Governor House. He acknowledged the welfare initiatives undertaken by the Governor and stated that the newly elected body had proposed the allocation of quotas for Press Club members and their children in IT initiative courses.
