Govt committed to empowerment of women: Shaukat

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Thursday said the Holy Qur’aan and the Sunnah provide the guidelines for every aspect of life and assured that all laws passed by the government would be in conformity with the Islamic injunctions. The prime minister was talking to a delegation of parliamentarians belonging to the PML and allied parties in his chamber at the Parliament House. The delegation was led by PML President Chaudary Shujaat Hussain. The prime minister said protection of Women Rights Bill is in consonance with the teachings of Quran and Sunnah, adding it will ensure quick and inexpensive justice and security to women and safeguard their rights.

He said the government is committed to economic, political and social empowerment of women as no country can progress without leveraging the true potential of women. The government, the prime minister said, is committed to empowering the women while staying within the parameters provided by religion, cultural norms, traditions and values. Shaukat said the government is focusing on creating opportunities for youth to help them make their due contribution in the society. He said the Rozgar Scheme launched by the government will provide self-employment opportunities to youth to improve their living standard.

The programme will be further expanded and a scheme to provide internship facilities to youth will also be initiated, the prime minister added. Shaukat said the government is also working to provide training in different areas to eliminate unemployment and enable young generation to get jobs in Pakistan and abroad. The parliamentarians appreciated the steps taken by the government to improve the living standards of the people and provide them basic amenities of life. They said the Rozgar Scheme would go a long way in reducing unemployment and improving the living standards of the people particularly youth.

They also acknowledged the prime minister’s recent visit to Beirut to express solidarity and support with the people of Lebanon during this difficult time. They said the Muslim world needed to create unity among their ranks to meet the challenges facing them. The meeting was attended among others by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Durrani, Minister for Privatisation Zahid Hamid, Kamil Ali Agha, Dr Junaid Joya, Khawaja Sheraz, Umer Nazir, Bilal Ahmad Wirk, Sanaullah Masti Khail, Sardar Tufail, Sardar Fateh Mohammad Hasni, Ghayas Ahmad Mela, Tasneem Nawaz Gardezi, Ghaus Bukhsh Mehr, Ghalib Hussain, Rai Mansab Ali Khan, Imranullah, Safdar Shabbir and Ghulam Murtaza Malik.
