DHAKA: A senior journalist and Dawn correspondent in Dhaka, Hasan Saeed, died of heart attack at 5pm on Tuesday. He was 60.
He leaves behind his wife, three sons, one daughter, an old father, brothers and sisters.
His father, brothers and sisters all live in Karachi.
Family sources said Saeed had a massive heart attack in his sleep after a late lunch. HeHhhHe was immediately taken to Suhrawardy Hospital where he died soon after arrival.
He will be buried at Banani Graveyard on Wednesday, following his Namaz-I-janaza after Zohar prayers..
He joined journalism in 1962 as a cub reporter in Pakistan’s APP news agency. Later, he joined as a staff reporter in the Morning News which he left for Eastern News Agency in 1972.
He was the founder director of United News of Bangladesh (UNB) which started operation in 1988 as the country’s first computerized news agency.
CONDOLENCES: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia have expressed deep shock at the death of Mr Saeed. In separate condolence messages, they conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed, for the departed soul.
Meanwhile, Mr Saeed was Dawn’s correspondent in Bangladesh for the last 16 years. He also taught journalism at Dhaka University.
