LAHORE – A human rights body through a letter to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani has urged for the release of father of Pakistan’s nuclear bomb, Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan pleading his commendable services for the country.
The World Movement Protection for Human Rights has reminded the Prime Minister that Dr Khan has been under detention over the last 1,500 days for none of his fault. It said that every Pakistani was indebted to the services of Dr AQ Khan but it was height of ingratitude to that he had been incarcerated at his residence.
The body reminded that Dr Khan, leaving every charm of life behind, came to Pakistan from Holland in 1974 to serve his country. It is a great credit of Dr Khan that he made Pakistan nuclear power and capable of giving befitting reply to the Indian nuclear test blasts in May 1998 when the Indian leadership was throwing open challenges of war on Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. On the instructions of the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Dr Khan successfully blasted atomic bombs in a series thus made defence of the country impregnable and sent a message to the enemy to beware of the military power of the first Islamic atomic power in the world before adverting to any adventurism.
It said that Nawaz Sharif commendably withstood every pressure from America, threats and greed and went ahead with the plan to detonate the atomic bombs in response to Indian.
The forum said that the genius of Dr Khan produced the atomic bombs far better in quality than that of India while highly successful use of ultracentrifuge technology by him fell as a surprise to the whole world.
President movement Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi said that today every Pakistan took pride in atomic defence of the country while the whole credit of it went to Dr AQ Khan and his team. But it is a great pity, he said, “We have put Dr AQ Khan under house arrest whereas he is a national hero.” By that, movement said, “We are transmitting a good message to our coming generations about the respect of our heroes.” It urged the Prime Minister to intervene for the release of Dr , Khan, as the same was aspiration of every Pakistani.
