On February 7, Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho held a meeting with a delegation from the Crime Reporters Association Karachi (CRA) at the Central Police Office to discuss issues related to crime reporting and policing. The CRA delegation, led by President Sameer Qureshi, included key members such as Vice President Ubaidullah Shah, General Secretary Nadeem Ahmed, and other governing body members.

The meeting focused on enhancing mutual cooperation and the media’s integral role in crime prevention. Both parties explored ways to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and crime reporters to bolster public safety and information dissemination.

General Secretary Nadeem Ahmed raised concerns about political pressure leading to cases against journalists, arguing it could threaten freedom of expression. The group agreed that any complaints or issues faced by journalists would be addressed through collective consultation and a coordinated strategy, ensuring the media’s role in societal safety and reform is maintained without compromise.

IG Odho praised the crime reporters for their positive and responsible contributions to social reform and their role in supporting law enforcement efforts to improve law and order. He acknowledged their encouragement has been vital in highlighting and preventing street crime and other criminal activities.

Looking ahead, Odho emphasized the shift towards modern, technology-based policing, highlighting the importance of media in this transition. He noted that security measures were being enhanced through inter-institutional cooperation and information sharing, underscoring the evolving dynamics of policing in the digital age.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to sustained coordination. The IGP assured that the Sindh police would continue to drive efforts to promote a public-friendly and effective policing environment.
