Illegal detention of woman, son: SHOs of Saddar, Women Police stations summoned

Karachi: District and Sessions Judge South has summoned Station House Officers (SHOs) of Saddar and Women Police stations for illegally detaining a women and her nine year old disabled son for two days.

The judge asked SHO Saddar Zahoor Ahmed, SHO Women Police Station Syeda Ghazala and duty officers of both the police stations to appear before the court on Tuesday(today).

Petitioner Johnson had filed a habeas corpus petition in the court of District and Sessions Judge Faheem Ahmed Siddiqui that his wife Surraya and his nine-year-old son Dawood were kept in the Saddar police station without being charged of any crime. He had prayed the court for their recovery.

On the directives of judge, head bailiff raided the Saddar police station on Monday, but he was informed that both had been detained in the Women Police Station. He along with his team raided the Women Police Station and found Surraya and her nine-year-old disabled child.

The detainees were picked from the jurisdiction of Saddar police station on May 1. The head bailiff asked the SHO concerned to release them on personal surety. SHO Syeda Ghazala replied that Surraya had been booked under section 448 (punishment for house trespass) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Neither was an entry made in the daily log book nor was an FIR lodged against them in both the Saddar and Women Police stations.
