Karachi: Taking serious notice of an attack on a team of DawnNews near Thatta, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has ordered the regional police officer of Hyderabad and the district police officer of Thatta to arrest the culprits at the earliest and submit a report to his office.

Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan also strongly condemned the attack on the journalists. Terming it an unfortunate incident, he ordered the police to hold an inquiry into it and expose the culprits. He ordered provision of complete protection to the journalists as well as arrangements for their safe return.

Senior journalist Syed Talat Hussain and cameraman Haider Ali came under attack on Friday evening. They were recording a programme on the plight of flood victims in the Road More area of Jati Tehsil when unknown gunmen opened fire on them.

Locals said the gunmen belonged to a Qabza group, DawnNews reported, adding sub-machineguns and other sophisticated weapons were used in the attack.

Dozens of families are still awaiting help and trying to make ends meet under the open sky in this flood-ravaged area.
