Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi advised women to avoid sharing personal photographs with anyone, warning of the risks of cybercrime, online harassment and blackmail. He made the remarks during an open court session at the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Lahore on October 23.
Naqvi said the agency was receiving the highest number of cases involving the harassment and cyber-blackmail of women. He said he would discuss staffing shortages with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, noting that the NCCIA had only 61 officers across Punjab. The government also plans to launch an awareness campaign targeting girls and the general public.
The minister warned people against online financial fraud, advising them to verify requests for money, particularly those made by individuals claiming to be ill. He also cautioned against fake social media accounts and schemes promising to double investments.
