The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has confirmed the full restoration of internet services nationwide. The nationwide disruption caused by faults in the SMW4 and AAE-1 submarine cables has now been resolved.
A PTA spokesperson shared that repairs to the SMW4 submarine cable, which faced issues in June, have been successfully completed. The AAE-1 cable, which developed faults in August, has also been restored, eliminating the shortfall of 1,750 Gbps and bringing internet speeds back to full capacity nationwide.
The PEACE cable was introduced into the network this year to improve connectivity. PTA officials stated that plans are in place to add three more cables within the next two years—two from Transworld International and one from PTCL—to further enhance connectivity.
Despite global advancements in telecommunications, Pakistan continues to face challenges in maintaining consistent 4G connectivity. Additionally, access to the platform X (formerly Twitter) has been restricted since February 17. There have been multiple disruptions to internet access this year.
