The Islamabad High Court (IHC) will resume hearings on September 18 for multiple petitions challenging the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (PECA) Amendment Act 2025.

Justice Raja Inaam Ameen Minhas is scheduled to preside over the proceedings. The petitions have been filed by the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), several television anchors, and the Islamabad High Court Journalists Association.

The case was last heard on July 7, when arguments were initiated. However, no date for the next hearing was set at the time. The new date has now been officially announced.

During the earlier session, legal counsel for PFUJ, Dr Yasir Aman, presented initial arguments. He is expected to continue his submission during the upcoming hearing.

The amendments to the PECA law were passed by the National Assembly on January 23. The changes grant the government enhanced authority to oversee and manage content on social media platforms. These legislative modifications prompted widespread concern and opposition from media professionals and human rights advocates.

Following the passage of the amendment, various groups and individuals submitted petitions in different high courts across the country, including the IHC, contesting the legal and constitutional validity of the updated law.
